How a piston engine works:
1. In the intake stroke, the piston is driven by the crankshaft and moves from the top dead center to the bottom dead center;
2. Compression stroke. During the compression stroke, the intake and exhaust valves are closed at the same time, the piston moves from the bottom dead center to the top dead center, and the crankshaft rotates 180 degrees.
3. In the power stroke, when the piston is close to the top dead center, the flammable mixture is ignited by the spark plug, and the combustion of the mixture releases a large amount of heat energy, which rapidly increases the pressure and temperature of the gas in the cylinder;
4. Exhaust stroke, the exhaust valve is opened, the intake valve is still closed, the piston moves from the bottom dead center to the top dead center, and the crankshaft rotates 180 degrees.
The role of the piston:
1. The piston ring plays a sealing role in the cylinder. The linkage connecting rod makes the crankshaft rotate in one direction to achieve the purpose of continuous work of the piston.
2. During the intake stroke, the piston moves downward, the intake valve is opened, and the mixed gas synthesized by gasoline and air is sucked into the cylinder.
3. During the compression stroke, the intake valve is closed, the piston moves upward, and the combustible mixture is compressed.
4. During the working stroke (or power stroke, explosive stroke), the piston is compressed to the apex, and the spark is generated by the high-voltage current in the spark plug. The spark causes the combustible mixture to ignite and burn tenderly, and the temperature is as high as 2,0001°C, causing all the gases to expand rapidly and generate extremely high pressure (about 30-40 kg/cm 2 ), which pushes the piston to move downward, and is driven by the connecting rod. to rotate the crankshaft.
5. During the exhaust stroke, the piston moves upward, the exhaust valve opens, and the exhaust gas after combustion is squeezed by the piston and discharged from the exhaust valve.
6. It can be seen that the piston of the engine transmits the work done by the engine through the continuous cycle of four strokes of exhaust, intake, compression and explosion.
