The exhaust manifold is connected to the cylinder block of the engine, and the exhaust gas of each cylinder is collected and guided into the exhaust manifold with branched pipelines.
The main requirement for it is to reduce the exhaust resistance as much as possible and avoid mutual interference between the cylinders. When the exhaust is too concentrated, the cylinders will interfere with each other, that is, when a certain cylinder is exhausted, it just hits the undischarged exhaust gas from other cylinders. In this way, it will increase the resistance of the exhaust, thereby reducing the output of the engine.
The solution is to separate the exhaust of each cylinder as much as possible, one branch per cylinder, or one branch for two cylinders, and make each branch as long as possible and independently shaped to reduce the mutual influence of the gas in the different pipes.
The exhaust manifold should take into account engine power performance, engine fuel economy performance, emission standards, engine cost, matching vehicle front compartment layout and temperature field, etc.
Exhaust manifolds commonly used at present can be divided into two types: cast iron manifolds and stainless steel manifolds in terms of materials and processing techniques.
1.Possess good high temperature oxidation resistance.
2.Stable microstructure.
3.Small coefficient of thermal expansion.
4.Excellent high temperature strength.
Good process performance and low cost.
Cummins engines are mainly used in commercial vehicles, construction machinery, mining equipment, marine power and generator sets, etc.
